Annelise, Annelise

Passing right by you

No joy ever accrues

No blessings for you

Annelise, Annelise

As soon as you’re born

Always reaping their scorn

Lost and forlorn

Annelise, all your crying

All your cries unheard

Annelise, Annelise

One thing before I leave

No one saw you bereaved

No one ever believes

Annelise, all your crying

All your cries unheard

Mike Shanley's favorite LPC song. Another Sept. 11 song, ostensibly about the fate of the homeless who lived in and around the WTC (I hope that's not too sentimental). I'm not sure what I think of the harmonies on this tune. Sometimes they sound quirky and great, but sometimes... not too good. I won't go into a lengthy exegesis on the deficiencies of my voice, but let's just say I have to be real careful about holding pitch and tone. All my favorite singers are technically awful but personally so engaging. Alex Chilton could sing when he was in Big Star, but he's my only fave rave who comes to mind (like, Patti Smith is a great singer who is anything but a Great Singer).
