Hey, I’m so proud of this

I only steal from the best

From the best, fuck the rest

You say your art has been defiled

I say you’re just a baby child

Meek and mild, a little child

Well that’s my story, there’s your song

You got the copywriting wrong

The copyright expires tonight

So Proud

Believe it or not, I initially wrote this as a Game Theory tribute. Before we added the freak-out guitar solos, the chorus was stolen from “In a Delorean” off of Two Steps From The Middle Ages, the last and also the weakest GT effort. Jen Schmidt hipped me to the Loud Family (another Scott Miller project) around 1997 or so, which led me back to lolita Nation and the rest of the GT catalog. Just for the hell of it, here's the deleted chorus (I did add a few new lines):

Must have been your little sister I saw / Must have been your little sister I saw / Tore my heart with talons and claws / Must have been your little sister I saw / Slit my wrist with a rusty hacksaw / Must have been your little sister I saw (three times)

“So Proud” attempts to make a mockery of the idea that you can “steal” rock n' roll songs. Lyrical inspiration aside, 1-4-5 (and for that matter, 1-4 and 1-5) chord progressions are 1-4-5 chord progressions. I don't exactly ascribe to this point of view, but it's fun to be a smart aleck.
